We live in a world of fast fashion, a world where we don't know where things come from and how they are made, if the materials are ethically sourced and the working conditions are safe for the makers. Therefore, I think that getting to know who is behind the things we buy is very crucial. I believe that knowing the artist and creator of the things we are going to buy is an important step in making conscious purchases. So here is a few info to get to know me better. I was born in Parma, Italy, just outside of town, immersed in the crop fields and nature. I grew up creating things with my hands with different materials, from wood, to paper and eventually metal. I ventured in a lot of techniques and arts, from painting to sculpting, to photography. But ultimately, my passion for rocks, which I have been collecting since I was a toddler, became more prominent than others. That is why stones and crystals play an important part in my work. I am a nature lover, I love and admire every single part of it, but my favorite season has to be spring. The flowers, the sudden warm weather and everything blooming again... I don't think there's more to say to it. Nature and flowers are in fact what inspires me every day when creating my pieces. When designing my jewels, I always imagine a world full of fae folk, mystical creatures and nature, a peaceful and dreamy world, where people run barefoot in the fields and the woods, laughing, singing songs and reciting poetry.

A BIT MORE I WROTE FOR MARCH MEET THE MAKER 2021.
The most asked question for 'March Meet the Maker' was how I approached metalsmithing. So here we go. To be honest, I never know how to answer this question, not because I don't know how to say it, but cause I feel like I never 'approached' it. I don't feel like people just 'approach' out of the blue a craft, like they wake up one day and decide to start it, but it's more like 'you grow into' your passion. You take your hobbies, your inspirations, things you are interested in and mix them together. And I think I grew into metalsmithing since I was little, making awful bead bracelets (you know the ones with the chunky and colorful plastic beads every kid made). The first time I remember actually making something was in 2000/2001 in kindergarten, when we had a class on bead-jewelry making (way before safety issues were a thing), I think I still have a few of the beads from those days. Then in elementary school we had this thing where our class would make jewelry (beads, macrame..etc) to sell at the school market to raise money for school supplies, and that was another step for me. In the meantime I also collected lots of things, from rocks, to coins, stickers, acorns, leaves, insects, stamps... & lots more (I'm really exposing the nerd in me here, so appreciate it). And eventually in high school (around 2014) I started actually crafting real decent jewelry and selling some of my first pieces. I first started with mixing lots of techniques, but eventually settled on metalsmithing as it was by far the technique that made me express myself the best way possible, with crystals, details and many shapes. And who knows where this will evolve into. Behind the scenes I'm always experimenting different crafts, last year I started lino-cutting and lino-printing, next on my list would be learning how to sew (sewing patterns.. etc) and pottery, which I'll definitely need to take a class for and not just 'wing it' as i've always done with everything before, as I find them soooo difficult. |
